Does it take months to lose.

I understand not everyone’s bodies are the same. But i’ve noticed with most weight loss progress it jumps up and down, up and down again, for example: 150. 149. 145. 141. 143. 145. 151. 148 etc, Does it always take that long?

Using a weight tracking app with a trend line helps smooth out the peaks and valleys. Just remember that it is equally as unlikely that you gained 3 pounds of fat in a day as it is that you lost 3 pounds of fat. Water weight plays a much bigger role in the big swings than fat does.

Answer

Yes the scale number is a roller coaster, but if your calorie deficit is very consistent, you actually lose almost the exact amount of body fat you would expect over weeks and months. The problem is the scale does not measure just body fat. If your deficit is not consistent (some weeks it is on target, other weeks it is not) then the scale fluctuations might be showing true gain and loss.
