Does it take time to adjust to intermittent fasting when working out and feeling weak?

Hello everyone!

I’m doing keto and intermittent fasting. I have around 1700 calories every day (Male, almost 30). I feel very weak when I work out in the morning. I have electrolytes, water, and caffeine before working out. I feel like I have no energy when lifting. It is easier to do cardio. Is this normal? Does it take some time to adjust?

Thank you in advance!

It’s a pretty similar experience to mine. Morning cardio is much less tiring and doesn’t make me very hungry. But morning strength training can kick my ass and makes me count down the time to my meal. Not an expert but I’d guess it’s down to us humans having evolved to walk a lot in search of food.

Over time, the routine should get easier but it depends what you’re going for. If the strength training is mostly for conditioning, you should be fine. If it’s for lots of muscle building, you’ll probably need to switch your schedule so you can work out after putting energy and nutrients in your body. Building lots of muscle tissue takes lots of energy, after all.

I think everyone here is ignoring the obvious. You are already eating at a small window because of IF. But you’re also doing Keto during your eating window, which is depriving your body of carbohydrates, it’s main energy source. So if you’re fasting for 12+ hours a day, and then depriving your body of carbs, where are you gonna get energy from? At 1700cal a day, you don’t strike me like a big guy. So you don’t have enough fat storage to keep you energy at early or late hours. Eat some carbs.

I don’t really have an issue on fail TRF fasts. I work out at end of a 16 or 18 hr fast without issue. If you’re new to fasting you might have to get used to it. I’m doing HIIT and I push hard in class without limit.
