does liquid fasting still bring weight loss?

i’m gonna try to fast for a week, safely obviously. i have vitamins, and i’m going to drink a lot of water. i’ve never fasted for this long and am wondering if drinking liquids with calories in it (eg coffee from starbucks or smth) will ruin progress?

these calories are all that i’ll consume for an entire week so i don’t think it would be that much of a difference but i might as well ask the professionals haha

Answer

Have you fasted before?

I wouldn’t go for a week off the bat, that’s pretty intense, set yourself attainable goals to build your tolerance and confidence.

I tried doing a week off the bat a few years ago, couldn’t get 72 hours and had to quit it and never really got back on for a while

Answer

It doesn’t have anything to do with being liquid or solid, it is all about insulin.

A high caloric deficit without keeping track of insulin is a recipe for disaster. This is when your metabolism goes down, since you are never switching to fat burning but still are in a deficit. The only way to go for your body is to reduce expenditure. Liquids might be even worse since they are digested so quickly.

Answer

It takes about 10 grams of protein or glucose to really exit fasting metabolism mode. Stay well under that and you’re in the green. Nothing wrong with like a 20 calorie coffee creamer if your goal is weight loss. On multi day fasts I even take certain fiber/saturated fat supplements that add up sometimes to 100 calories. have no measurable difference in weight loss results.

On the other hand if you drink one of those 300+ calorie sugar bomb drinks you are going to feel like death, avoid at all costs.
