Does MyProtein Electrolyte Plus break a fast?

Sorry for the stupid question, but I didn’t find it answered yet. Neither the website nor the package give any indication as to how many calories/macros a tablet contains, however I found at least one alcohol listed in the ingredients.

I am mainly fasting for autophagy (in hopes of it reducing my loose skin after weight loss) and would hate for the tablets to interrupt that.

Thank you!

Answer

I take them on extended fasts… sometimes 2 a day, sometimes 4 or 6 depending on how I’m feeling, along with salt and pickle juice. They have nothing at all really added to them, so they’re fine to use :)

The ingredients are:

Potassium Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Sodium Chloride, Magnesium Oxide, Bulking Agent (Microcrystalline Cellulose), Anti-Caking Agents (Silicon Dioxide, Magnesium Stearate), Glazing Agents (Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Glycerine, Carnauba Wax).

The biggest problem is that it is not formulated for fasting but as a dietary supplement; meaning that it seems to assume you are getting your electrolytes from your diet and it is meant to top you off:

Potassium 400 mg 20%
Chloride 320 mg 40%
Calcium 200 mg 25%
Magnesium 100 mg 27%

Sodium 210mg

Sodium is low all around. For a long fast you would have to take about 4 of them and another gram and change of table salt, which would add iodine. The magnesium oxide they use is not the most bioavailable form (poor absorption).
