Does oats lose nutrition when added with milk?

I checked online and also on the packet of Quaker oats. It says 100gm of oats has 11g of protein and I searched for the nutritional value of oats with milk and I saw it has only 4g of protein. Why is that? Does it mean that having an plain oatmeal with milk is not nutritional as raw and what are my other options for quick pre working snack?

Thank you.

Answer

Label numbers imply a higher precision than exists.

Food label numbers are ± 20% to accommodate product variation

Cereals are often listed with and without milk. Check if you mixed it up

Milk and oat nutrients won’t significantly interact at room temp

Answer

Go by the label, the one you have in hand. If it’s 11g of protein per 100g, that’s what you go with. If you’re adding milk, that will add to the total protein

By the way, that’s a decent profile for a packet of oats. Most packets will have 4-5g protein. Is it possible that the brand/type you looked up online is different than the one you have on hand?

Answer

You’re not getting much nutrition at all from oatmeal, no matter what you mix it with. The phytic acid will chelate to all the minerals and make them completely bio-unavailable (yes, no matter how much you soak or cook it). And that’s before you get to the glyphosate nuking your gut flora…

Basically, if you’re gonna eat oatmeal - don’t stress about the nutrition and just enjoy it (sparingly).
