I’m on day 2 of omad to lower my insulin resistance, but to me it’s so depressing to wait 24 hours to eat, as i used to binge all day everyday. Does it get easier? do you guys see an improvement in your mood with omad?
It gets easier after a week. Your body is an idiot so since it’s used to getting food all day it craves food every day.
It does get easier. It takes time. Just remember OMAD is a temporary thing then you can switch to two meals once you hit your limit. OMAD is not permanent.
I used to force feed myself with more meals a day, beliving if was the must do, especialy with my training. When I was a kid and in my early teens I would go without food all day then eat fully and was super skinny all the time… So 5-6 fitness meals BS was a torture for me. Now 10 years of eating 2-3 hour windows (huge meal) and occasional 2-3 day full fasts I WILL NEVER go back ever. Try to go 18 hours for startes if its that hard. Good luck
I have just recently gotten over the hump where I can do OMAD. One weird counter-intuitive thing I have figured out is, whenever I feel like I am starting to get hungry again, I go for a walk or move my body doing something. Then my body for some reason isn’t so hungry anymore. Also, keep busy with something. Don’t just sit in a room with a ton of readily avilable food nearby.
it definitely gets easier after a week or two. I used to snack all the time; grab a snack after work, go and grab another one before doing something, get another one or three before playing a game.. When I first started fasting it felt like pulling teeth to sit there and not go get those snacks. Even if I wasn’t hungry, I was so used to doing it that I felt compelled to get snacks at certain times. Playing games literally felt like it was missing something without getting my normal snacks. It’s been 4 months since I started and it’s sooo easy now. OMAD feels natural to me and longer fasting is so much easier. You’ve just gotta get through this hump to train your body to a new schedule.
I’ve done keto and I’ve fasted on and off throughout my life, but starting IF this time around made me feel terrible (headachy, tired, cranky, foggy, huuuuungry, etc). I seriously questioned whether I could do it or not, but it turns out, I feel fine now that I’m a couple of months in. IF gets easier. It probably helped that I slacked off trying to go straight to OMAD and gradually narrowed my eating window to 3-4 hours. I’m at something like 20:4 now, sometimes 22:2, sometimes 18:6, but mostly with a narrow window.
If you’re eating a lot of carbs, you are likely spiking your insulin. This will make OMAD harding, as your body will be craving more carbs. As the other reply said, perhaps try keto or low carb. I ate a lot of carbs between Thanksgiving and New Years, gained some weight, and was really hungry all the time. After 2 weeks of keto/IF/fasting, I notice my appetite is greatly reduced.
Don’t first jump to OMAD. It isn’t sustainable for most people. Cutting your eating time window down and eating two meals a day instead of three, while controlling your snacking will be a major improvement for you. Then once you develop that discipline, you will be able to incorporate OMAD if you so choose.
I’m on day 21 now. Jumped straight into it from normal eating. The first few days were excrutiating and very difficult mentally to get through. I kept thinking of OMAD Revolution’s statement about the first 14 days being critical. If you can push through to that you will find it much much easier.
The hardest part is the very beginning when you are making the most abrupt change to your lifestyle. It’s gonna be uncomfortable on some days, challenging on others, and then before you know it you won’t be thinking about food pretty much at all, unless it’s from your body letting you know it needs it.
It’s very empowering. Taking control of my diet made it so much easier to take control of other things in my life I’d also been neglecting. Not sure what it is, but the abuse of that very basic human need of hunger is very stunting.
