Does protein on eating days affect how fast autophagy starts?

Does eating 150 vs 100 grams of protein for instance make any difference how fast autophagy kicks in? I’ve read that autophagy starts when the body lacks dietary protein so it would make sense that a higher protein intake would make it take longer for the body to burn the protein and start the self eating process.

Answer

According to the science as little as 3 grams of the amino acid leucine can stop autophagy (from Dr. Fung book, no reference given). Obviously not all amino acids would be as bad on the system but there is really no point on risking it.

The body carries a good reserve of amino acids plus it frees up more through autophagy. If you are training hard, you may want to fall back to an IF routine that allows you to refeed more often. Otherwise I would not worry about it.
