Answer

“your mood” is vague. This is what happens leading up to ketosis:

  1. Be prepared for minor issues. Particularly, coffee and sugar addicts go through heavy headaches/withdrawal which is evident how bad those really are.
  2. If you have no history of fasting, you need to train your body to learn how to use fat as energy. The electrolytes from the salt maintain homeostasis but unfortunately you will need to get through the ‘body’s temper tantrums’. In essence, you’ve spoiled the body with easy food energy. What’s interesting is you get a lot more energy through fat, but it takes more energy to break it to usable ketones. Your body doesn’t like that, particularly, if it’s not used to it.
  3. Before you enter ketosis, you must deplete your glycogen levels (stored in liver). The amount varies for each person. This process will give you ‘hunger pains’. Essentially, your body/brain is telling yourself the immediately usable sugar/carb energy is gone and we’re using reserves in the liver - thinking the end of energy is near. Aka your stomach will ‘growl’ since it’s lazy and prefers the path of least resistance (carbs/sugar), rather than what’s healthiest (losing weight by using the fat reserves).
  4. As a seasoned faster, I get into ketosis within 12-24hrs of fasting, however, for first timers it can take up to 50 and if you’re (pre)diabetic up to 96 because there is just too much sugar in the bloodstream.

Answer

It keeps your electrolytes balanced which in a way does help. But in the end it comes down to how dedicated you are in your mind, if there are doubts, then there is a possibility your mood can change and make you crack before ketosis hits.
