Does your body still need the same amount of protein?

Say normally I would eat 100 grams of protien in a normal day without fasting. If I alternated between fasting for a few days and having a eating period that lasted a few days would I need to eat 200 grams of protein in my eating period to make up for the protein I didn’t eat when fasting?

Or are there any studies that show the body is more efficient with making use of the protein it has when fasting so I’ll need less overall

Answer

Yes! Your body cannot store amino acids.

I have not come across good scientific studies which measure negative impact of fasting due to reduced or no protein intake.

I assume autophagy will release proteins that the body needs. My guess, again depends on your biochemistry - a few days without protein may not be a big deal, but more than a week … I would worry as the body tends to eat itself and it becomes progressively harder to add muscles as we age.
