Downsides to fruit as your only carb source?

Would there be any downsides to exclusively using fruit as your carb source? The rest of the diet would essentially just be meat and vegetables, no grains or roots/tubers.

Answer

For a protein fix, add nuts on occasion.

But I tend to think most people do need some carbs, especially if they exercise. It doesn’t have to be “bread” or a pound of broccoli. There are excellent complex grains, for example, quinoa, 30-minute slow-cooked oats, etc. You will likely feel better with some complex carbohydrates mixed into the routine.

Answer

I think nuts, rice, carrots, and the occasional slice of toast covered in Avocado slices can be extremely beneficial. I don’t think you should cut out all grains, you just want to watch how much of it you eat, assuming your not allergic. A balanced diet is the most important thing in my personal opinion.

Answer

I think :Not all carbs are created equal. Even within carbs that have calories, there are three different common monosaccharides. Glucose is in bread, while fruit has a high percentage of fructose. Milk has galactose*So that could mean that a high percentage of your carb intake is fructose. Fructose is sweeter than glucose and must be broken down in the liver. Over consumption of fructose results in fatty liver and liver problems. Fructose is kind of like a burden on your liver. If instead, you’re only source of carbs was whole grain, you’d get a much higher glucose to fructose ratio. Glucose is less sweet and can be directly absorbed into the blood I think? Fructose doesn’t spike insulin, but that doesn’t mean that it’s healthier than glucose. I think glucose is healthier.

*It’s either the milk disaccharide or monosaccharide. The milk disaccharide is a combination of the milk monosaccharide and glucose. So critical, right? 😑

Answer

Spiking your insulin very high with just fruits make cause hunger levels to go up. So adjust your needs if you find this issue. I would suggest also using grains as carbs so you balance out your macronutrients. Carbs is a big part of your overall nutrition, and relying on that big portion of your nutrition on fruits, may lack sufficient need in vitamins or minerals.

This all various on what types of vegetables or meats you’re consuming that offset from minerals and vitamins you aren’t getting. So it’s good to look up the nutrition information for the fruits you will be eating regularly.

Answer

The diet your looking for is considered a Paleo diet. It is perfectly healthy for the majority of people but with any diet your body may need time to acclimate itself to running off the nutrients you give it without having carbs. If you drop carbs pick up more healthy fats, beef tallow, butter, coconut oil, etc.

Yes fats are healthy and necessary and although you can survive with minimal fat intake it can really play a role on your mental health. People may also argue against animal products but I’d say just eat what you like and works best for you humans can live off of plants but it’s no mystery that we’ve been eating meats since our primal days so it’s not “bad” just eat a variety of foods

Answer

The sugar in fruit is has quite a bit of fructose, and fructose is linked to NAFLD.

Whether that is an issue depends on a lot of factors - how much you eat, how active you are, which fruits you eat, what your genetics are, what your current metabolic health is, etc.
