So, I just got kicked out of The Obesity Code Diet Facebook Group because they did not want to acknowledge Dr. Phinney’s research and comments about losing lean body mass when dieting. Oh well…
Dr. Phinney does not seem to acknowledge that excess skin could contribute to the rate of consumption of lean body mass. The liver also seems to shrink in size if it was enlarged to begin with. An enlarged heart is a risk of heart failure. So some organ shrinkage may be healthy, depending on the state prior to Fasting.
People that do long fasts to lose weight seem to have far less, or even very little, loose skin. The skin is pretty thick, and can weigh several pounds. It’s made of proteins and fats.
Very few people that I know of have indicated any problems with loss of muscle mass, and whether that lost mass was a problem.
Dr. Fung profiled a body builder last year who fasts for 3 days before doing is work out. The guy was in his 50s and looked great.
