Is it working for you? Are you at or getting closer to a healthy weight? If you suffer from diabetes/hypertension/cholesterol, are those conditions improving? Do you have any significant vitamin or nutrient deficiency? As a doctor these are the main things I would want to look into if patient inquired about a new diet. If it all checked out fine I wouldn’t discourage them from it.
>She went on to say that we must eat every few hours otherwise it’ll ruin my metabolism and that babies eat every few hours so why shouldn’t we?
I told my doctor I was doing IF and she said I should consider a protein-based smoothie as my first mean of the day, but otherwise keep up the good work. Your doctor is an idiot.
Do you have diabetes/on insulin? People who are on insulin absolutely should not fast for prolonged periods without medical supervision because hypoglycemia is literally life threatening. Outside of that scenario I don’t see why anyone shouldn’t do intermittent fasting.
I find doctors are split on IF like chiropractic care. Some say it’s good and go with it and others say no it’s bs, take these drugs instead. Fuck the doctors that just want to medicate for everything, to me they are just trying to get padding from the pharmaceutical companies.
Just last week I went to my Physio for an upper back issue. I’m a dentist so this is par for the course. He noticed the amount of weight I’d lost, and I made the mistake of telling him about IF. He burst out laughing and told me that everyone just gets on these “fads” and how it’s SO unhealthy, and the only way to lose weight in a healthy way is to exercise. I mean, stay in your lane, dude. Sure, advise me to exercise, but you don’t need to laugh at my choices before you understand the rationale and the science behind my choices. Most of these condescending doctors think that just because they did a degree and studied for a certain amount of time in their lives they know everything and everyone else is just wrong.
