Drinks during fasting period

What is the general opinion about drinking Coke Zero or some other diet soda? I know about tea or black coffee, but my eating window is until 7pm and I often don’t sleep until midnight (work from home blabla) and Coke zero seems to do the trick, but does it break my fast? Thanks

Answer

Ultimately, folks get results only having water, only black tea/coffee, as well as drinking buckets of diet soda. It’s less about what physiologically ‘breaks a fast’ and more about what works for you and your body.

Personally, I found a lot of the artificial sweeteners were making me hungry all the time and cutting the huge amount of diet soda I was drinking throughout the day made it easier to stick to my fasting schedule and not overeat.

Answer

I’ve tested it myself with a blood sugar meter, if it doesn’t have calories it doesn’t make a difference.

Some water-only-people push it for puritanical reasons, not weight loss.

Answer

Is it the caffeine that helps you beat the cravings or the fizzy drink? If you like the caffeine and can still get to sleep maybe try iced tea or coffee after dinner. If you like the bubbles, you could try seltzer.

Answer

Artificial diet drinks don’t spike glucose levels but they absolutely spike insulin, which is worse. Phosphates are added to give that nice clean refreshing mouth feel. Evil scientists have one main goal: to get you hooked. Not for me.
