Dry mouth while fasting

Hi guys! I’m new here and looking for some advice. I started intermittent fasting again to try to lower my A1c levels (borderline prediabetes) and other health markers.

This is currently my second day fasting (16:8) and am experiencing dry mouth with increased thirst.

Is this common with starting out intermittent fasting and what can I do to adjust? I’d love to hear your guys’ experiences as well with supplement if taking any, and stuff like that.

Thank you all in advance!

Answer

Drink more water. When on a fasting schedule, coupled with a caloric reduction, you will get a lot less water through food than you normally do, and it won’t be spread throughout the day. So you need to be careful about drinking more, all day long.

These are symptoms of thirst. If you still don’t get enough water in, then the next step is dehydration (most common symptoms being headaches and cramps.)

You might want to also take electrolytes if your water doesn’t contain them.
