Dryfasting & the Herbivore vs Omnivore Dilemma

This post is not related to fasting for weight loss.

I have always had health issues and have tried out and solution I thought could help including complete dietary overhaul

After decades of learning I have mostly bought into the Carnivore reasoning. I currently believe a lot of the plant parts we consume can be toxic to people and that from an evolutionary standpoint we have been adapted to eat meat for 2 million years vs the last 100k years of agriculture where there seems to be a lot of evidence that’s when a lot of our immune issues started.

I also hold that we could be in a process of evolving and adapting to plant foods but for people messed up by our tragic food systems there can be many pitfalls in plant foods .

In regards to dryfasting - I believe the foremost experts that have been experimenting and documenting this for decades are all from Russia, namely Dr. Filonov. However his Protocals involve grains and I from what I’ve read of his all vegetarian diet.

The Phoenix Protocal advocates a Paleo diet and that is what I am trying to follow - mostly carnivore - a little fruits and honey and some cheat meals on things that hopefully do not send me to a whole systematic inflammation/histamine response. However he is not a Dr. and does not have the decades experience.

The Dilemma is trying to follow Dr. Filonov as close as possible but also currently convinced that eating Carnivore is the best thing for me right now.

There are thousands of chemical processes that can be altered by what you eat and how you enter and break longer fasts is extremely important (if you have a lot of excess weight than is not as critical) and I want to consider everything I can.

Would love to hear others weigh in that have had similar thought.

Here is my take: I wouldn’t put too much weight on Dr Filonov’s diet recommandation. One example is he advises to eat seed oils if I remember correctly.

His clinical knowledge about what dry fasting is able to heal is interesting but it’s not like the reasonings he has or the diet he preaches are really proven.

Regarding carnivore, I think it can be helpful (e.g. it can be used to create a Deuterium Depleted diet) but I also tend to think that carbs are important and the “we can make glucose from other macronutrients thus carbs are not needed” argument is not a very relevant one.

I don’t personally align with the carnivore diet - I eat plant based, but I think that every body is different and it is important to respect that. Dr. Filanov is giving recommendations based on what works the majority of the time with his patients. It shouldn’t be taken as law, just scientific studies. But even the most scientific study isn’t going to work for everyone. My best advice is to follow what works for your body, which is why experimentation is really valuable. Even the most experienced doctor doesn’t know your body :)

I’m in the same boat. I’m trying some 16hr IDF to ease in and I’m reading Filinov’s writing but I’m mostly carnivore. I cringe a lot when I see people here saying to drink watermelon juice or veg juice.
