Eating a calorie deficit, but no notable weight loss

Hi there,

I’ve been trying to lose weight and go from 205lbs to 180. I’ve been tracking calories for the last few weeks, and was initially eating about 1000 calories a day but have since upped it to 1500. I weigh myself every 2-3 days, but my weight has remained the same and oscillates around 205. My BMR is 1930cal according to TDEEcalculator. I’ve been starting to get a bit discouraged, since I can’t understand why I’m not losing weight. Has anyone encountered this issue before and what would you suggest?

Hey there,I’m sorry to hear that you’re feeling discouraged. It can be really frustrating when you feel like you’re doing everything right but not seeing results. There are a few things that could be happening. First, it’s possible that your body is just adjusting to the new diet and calorie intake. It can take a few weeks for your body to start losing weight. Second, you might be overestimating how many calories you’re actually eating. It’s easy to underestimate how many calories are in the foods we eat, especially if we’re eating out or not paying attention. Lastly, you might not be getting enough exercise. Even if you’re eating a healthy diet, you need to exercise to see results. I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck!

Your body is adjusting to your new caloric intake after you introduced it to your starvation diet (1000 calories??), which means that for now, all it will do is store up any calories you consume to prepare for the worse. Keep eating at 1500 calories and go for a brisk walk for 30-40 minutes a few times a week. You will eventually start to notice the difference.
