Eating my first meal 15 minutes before working out

So I’m in highschool and I don’t get out until 2:50, get home around 3 15, and workout around 3 30 everyday. The only thing is that I don’t eat until I get home and was wondering what foods would give me instant energy? I recently have been having cereal but I don’t wanna rely on just that. (I always eat a banana and a protein shake alongside whatever I eat before my workout).

If I have time tho ill make some sandwiches but I rarely do now that I’m back in school, instead I rush to find mainly sources of carbs 15 minutes before my workout. What should I do though? Should I eat a little earlier during one of my classes or is eating simple carbs all the time good enough 15 min before?

Also at the moment I eat around 750 calories right before

Thanks.

Answer

Is the 3:30 time mandatory? I can’t imagine eating 750kcal 15 minutes before working out and not puking or feeling weighted down.

What kind of workout are we talking about?

We’re all different but what you want here is to fuel your workout. Depending on the activity, 300-400 kcals should be enough, unless it’s long duration endurance. Make sure it has the fuel you need (fastish sugar (banana), protein (whey, egg, meat, whatever works), slowish carb (toast, oats, sweet potato…). Fat is optional.

You can have your true lunch after working out.

Personally, I will eat a light protein shake before the gym in the early mornings (5am), but I also don’t like eating solid food too soon before working out, so a shake is best for me. I make sure it has fairly fast carbs (e.g. sugar, from fruits, a banana is the best.) One scoop of protein powder, about ½ cup of ground oats, some berries, some almond milk and I’m good to go.

Also, you could get everything ready before you leave in the morning so when you come home, you only have to assemble / mix. That’d save you time, and the rush of trying to figure something out at the last minute.
