Eating some fruit on fasting days?

Some days I just don’t feel hungry so I should just fast on that day. I’m trying to lose weight anyway so I do this one day per week. Even if I feel full it does make me feel a little restless (slight shakes) and thinking of food. When I don’t have self control I can easily eat like 4000 calories of snacks while staying up late so maybe this is psychological.

Should I eat 200 calories worth of fruit/greek yogurt? Or will it negate the benefits of fasting? The FAQ said something about triggering more hunger craving but I’m not worried about that.

Answer

Part of the point of fasting is to lower insulin levels. Injecting yourself with fructose is kind of contrary to the idea.

But If you are getting the shakes after not eating for a number of hours, this could be an indicator of hypoglycemia, in which case you should probably monitor your blood sugar levels and maybe work up to longer fasts over a more extended period of time.

Breaking fasts with sugar isn’t something I would recommend. If you need to eat something, bone broth is a better choice.

Aside from that… eating is not fasting. But, you do you. People fast for different reasons and come up with ways that work for them.
