Electrolytes and cavemen

First of all let it be clear that I’m not advocating against electrolytes. I’m just curious and want to talk. So, sometimes I wonder if electrolytes are really necessary during a fast, especially when I think about how cavemen fasted during periods of famine — I don’t think they had lite salt and magnesium pills available, lol. I wonder if they had any other sources. Anyways, curious to hear arguments and opinions.

I know that by the end of day 2 of 3 I was getting leg cramps. I started taking magnesium, potassium and salt but was too far behind I guess. Ended up breaking the fast on day 3 but wanted to keep going. I will start the next fast after Thanksgiving with electrolytes right from the start.

I’m sure they were ingesting more mineral rich soil through foraging. They were also eating more organ meat . Also it is possible they did suffer from electrolyte imbalances but maybe their bodies adjusted since they would have experienced periods of famine from childhood, unlike most modern humans in the west.
