I’m on my 12th day of an extended fast, and I struggled badly with my energy levels from day 7-8 through today. Thinking my issues might stem from low levels of electrolytes, I went out and got Magnesium (as oxide), Potassium, and a B complex multivitamin supplement. I also started focusing on making sure I was getting at least a full teaspoon of salt daily. As of this morning, I feel like my energy has fully rebounded and I am back to normal. It took about 2 days from when I started supplementing to get back to normal, but I wanted to share this as a warning that if you are suffering extreme fatigue and muscle soreness/weakness, there is a good possibility that you could be deficient. I was seriously questioning my ability to power through and extend my fast, but after supplementing I feel great again.
My weight loss stalled out the last 2 days due to increased water retention, but obviously that was a good thing. I expect losses to resume going forward.
I know some claim that long fasts without supplementation are possible and sustainable, but the difference has been night and day. Please listen to your body and make sure you are giving it what it needs or stick to shorter fasts.
Great job. Sorry English isn’t my first language so may I ask?
Are you taking the magnesium and potassium in pill form? And how is the B complex vitamin helping? I heard on this sub that multivitamins or simple vitamins (A, B, K) could take you out of Ketosis/FastingAlso I’m currently struggling to find magnesium that wont give me the shits! What are you using in this regard?
