Electrolytes in pill form and the gastric peristaltic wave

I really and truly dislike drinking dissolved electrolytes to the point I will end up low (I will gag to the point of regurgitating small amounts of electrolyte solution). Many on here have criticized electrolyte supplements in pill form cuz they “burn a hole in your stomach”.

I just thought I’d leave a video here of stomach activity as rebuttal to the idea that electrolyte pills have enough contact time with the stomach wall to “burn a hole in the stomach lining”. I take my supplements with a large dose of water.

Answer

No one really means burning a literal hole in ones literal stomach.

What people mean is that fillable gel caps are usually designed to survive stomach passage to the intestines where the will often release their salty load in one spot causing a salt burn or irritation to the intestinal wall in a concentrated small area.

When I tried DIY electrolyte gel caps I ended up with stabbing lower abdominal pain on my right side for about 3-4 days.
