Electrolytes, Multivitamin, and Length of Fast

I know these are basic questions probably answered a thousand times, I’m just not seeing it…

1 - How long can you safely fast without taking electrolytes?

2 - I heard someone say, “electrolytes and a daily multivitamin.” Is the vitamin that big of a benefit/need?

thanks

Answer

Depends on your current goals, lean mass, etc.

You should absolutely take a multivitamin and electrolytes during a water fast. Processing water in your body requires salt and minerals, and you strip these away the longer you fast and more water your drink. You can actually die of dehydration on a fast when drinking large amounts of water without any supplements.

I do a multivitamin and Nuun tablet daily to maintain these levels, but add fish oil, HMB, NAC and sometimes SARMs to maintain energy, mood and muscle mass during long fasts. I am about 14% BF with significant muscle mass, so I am looking to maintain that and reduce losses during my fasts.
