I wonder why nobody talks about this, tbh.
Do I prepare them wrong? I’m falling behind on my daily water volume because I have no satisfaction from drinking this salty liquid.
For me not eating is a much smaller deal than drinking 2-3 L of the recipe from the guide.
I use 7.5g iodized salt, 15g lite salt, a bit magnesium for taste (the rest I drink separately).
(6k mg sodium, 3k potassium, 400mg magnesium)
🤷♂️
I’m on day 8/40 of a water fast. 107/117kg, GW:89
Totally agreed; this factor is limiting for my fasts. I’ve just done a week and want to do two; hunger isn’t a big issue. But one week is about all I can stand before terrible parched mouth feel all day, as well as wanting to retch whenever drinking electrolyte mix, makes me need to take a break.
Which is too bad because I feel like the first 2-3 days of the fast may less efficient than later ones in terms of burning body fat for me: mostly dropping water weight in that period. I’d prefer fewer, longer fasts to more frequent but brief ones, but those damn electrolyte supplements really put me off after a bit.
Dilute them more, keep it room temp, get a smoothie or milkshake straw and suck a tall glass of it down as fast as you can in one shot. Do that as many times as necessary spread throughout the day to get the full daily dose of salts down. The straw will help drink it much faster and keep you from tasting it so much, the extra dilution will help with that too. Keeping it room temperature will also help you drink it fast without brain freeze.
I use a former orange juice jug that holds 89 oz. and hit it 5 to 6 times per day. Between I sip on iced tea. My recipe is a little different, I’m at 9 g potassium bicarbonate, 4 g table salt, and 300 mg of magnesium citrate. I started on the low end of the recommendations and planned to work my way up as needed but so far haven’t needed to.
Get a straw and test your gag reflex. I’m serious.
I put the straw as far back on my tongue as I can without triggering my gag reflex, and drink from there- completely bypasses my tongue and I can chase it with a seltzer water like Polar that has no artificial sweetener.
I use Re-lyte brand electrolytes and just mix them with flavored sparkling water (bubly brand). I drink it quickly but I don’t even mind the taste. Reminds me of flavored alka-seltzer (which was also an acquired taste, I guess). It’s at least palatable
