elevated heartrate after a week of IF?

Hello all,

My fiancé has decided to try intermittent fasting and she is approaching 2 weeks since she began. she mentioned to me last night that her heart rate has increased and I’m wondering if this is something that could be related to the new eating habits as its a big change for her body. her resting seems to hang out around 85-95 and simple tasks like walking down the hall and back can cause an increase to about 110. Is it just her body working harder to burn the stored glucose etc. instead of carbs or whatever would normally be the fuel for her body when eating more often. heart rate is recorded by her Samsung smart watch. She is going to contact her doctor but I thought I might enquire here as well. Anyone else experience this? Thanks in advance!

Answer

We’re not medical doctors nor should you take medical advise from online strangers. Talking to her doctor is definitely the correct approach. 110 isn’t dangerously high, but in my unqualified opinion does seem a bit high for just a short walk.

I do OMAD most days and have never experience elevated heart rate doing a 24 hour fast. But I have experienced an elevated heart rate doing longer fasts, which I took as a sign that I needed to end my fast.

If I was in her shoes, I’d hold off on IF until I spoke to my doctor.
