Emotional eating or a sign from your body that you needed carbs?

If you are on a lower carb nutrition plan (10% net carbs, 60% fat, 30% protein) give in to a carb craving after dinner and eat something not on your meal plan but it was a single serving (ie. 1 cup high protein pasta or 1/2 cup brown rice) and you felt massively better the next day than you have in a couple of weeks, was it emotional eating or a sign your body really needed the carbs for muscle recovery? Is this when those adrenal support drinks should be used instead for the potassium?

Answer

Cravings are not necessarily a sign you need a particular nutrient. They can be, in specific situations… but in terms of emotional eating, no it doesn’t mean you “need” carbs in that moment

That’s not to say you can’t eat them, just that it’s not a signal that you’re deficient in them (or deficient in anything) Emotional eating is a behavior, basically a coping mechanism, not really a nutritional thing
