Ended fast early

Was going for 5 day fast, started sat pm. First two days were fine, a little hunger but nothing I couldn’t manage. I made a days worth of electrolyte drink but drank it over two days (since just start of fast I figure I didn’t need 100% dose). Woke up today with a headache but excited to get into the zone where it feels energetic. Keto strips confirm I’m there. Drank coffee and electrolyte water, sitting down I feel weird…nauseated, hands shaking, faint and buzzy. I get up to drink some electrolyte water and feel like I’m going to throw up/pass out. I lie down on the floor and eat a few bites of banana. Shaking stops after a few. I’m now in bed drinking broth with potassium and salt. Blood pressure normal/a little high for me. I am guessing it was low Blood sugar ? I don’t think inhave insulin resistance, did a cgm and seemed fine. Maybe electrolyte but it’s early days and I’m supplementing. Not sure if I should stop completely or keep going, see how I feel, maybe with broth….

Answer

I felt that way during a 5 day fast a few months ago. After doing some research, discovered the electrolyte powder I was using had way too much sodium which was causing my nausea. Stopped it immediately and felt better. Now I take a more balanced electrolyte fasting capsule and don’t get that issue. Good luck.

Answer

I would try to catch up to the daily allowance of electrolytes over the next few hours and see how you feel. Then make the call.

FWIW, I’ve been into fasting for over 5 years and I still supplement electrolytes daily. While everyone responds differently, I dehydrate and notice a difference after only a day or two of not supplementing.

Good luck.
