Extended fasting and caffeine

I have done multiple 60-70h fasts but every time I fast I become very lethargic and I just lie on my couch for hours. I take plenty of electrolytes thoughout the day but it doesn’t help. I feel good but I’m just so tired.

Should I drink something that has caffeine in it to make me more active during my fasts? I don’t normally drink coffee/tea/energy drinks.

Answer

Coffee and tea are fine, but they won’t cut it alone. To fight the lethargic behavior you need start the day with at least 15 minutes of light exercise to let your body know it has to provide energy sufficient for your activities. Otherwise it will stay in the natural energy saving mode. Try cold or contrast showers too, found it to be very helpful to start the day off the right foot. If you aren’t ready to take cold shower try short bursts of cold water on your thighs. That has great effect too and is a good place to start.
