Extended Fasting and Rolling Fasts

I just completed a 74 hour fast and refed yesterday and have started another fast. I don’t know if it will be 48 or 72. I had no problems with the first fast except I had trouble sleeping and started having body aches during the night. My main motive is autophagy although I am carrying extra weight as well. 70F 5’6” SW 230 CW 189 GW 169. I have been doing keto omad and have been hoping for autophagy due to numerous health issues. I’ve been watching videos on You Tube and have noticed that older people with health problems don’t get into autophagy as quickly as younger people which would mean my omad probably isn’t helping me much in that department. A video by on doctor showed that her patients who were doing 72 hour fasts weren’t getting as deep into autophagy as Dr. suggested, based on ketone and glucose level testing. It did seem that each fast seemed tp get them a little deeper into autophagy then the one before. Is this the reason I see people here doing rolling fasts? Would anyone here share with me the benefits you see from extended fasting and rolling fasts. I do see that frequently weight loss is not the goal. Thank you in advance.

Answer

For me, the benefits are purely fat loss. I can do OMAD, but I am more likely to maintain for long periods of time, basically not eating at a great enough deficit, I guess. As for autophagy, that was never the goal. The primary goal is to hit my goal weight as quickly as possible. I routinely do fast lasting 2 to 4 days with 2 to 3 eating windows a week. If I need a break, I give myself one. Eventually, I won’t be able to sustain these rolling fasts and will go to eating 1 to 2 times a day, but I am not there yet. I still feel good doing my rolling fast, this so long as I make sure to keep up with electrolytes!
