Extended Fasting and Sports/Exercise

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with sport in a fasted state. I play baseball 3 times a week, when it’s not raining (2 games, 1 practice session, spaced 2-3 days apart).

I’d like to do some extended fasting, maybe try to go a full week (4 days is my current record), but I’m concerned about my game performance. I can probably skip the practice session, but don’t want to miss games.

All my previous extended fasting was during lockdown, so it was fairly easy to control my exercise levels.

Answer

Drink electrolytes, don’t overdo it. Baseball feels much more manageable than, say, soccer since you don’t really have to do that much running and sweating. Drink electrolytes.

I do faster cardio all the time. It’s great. Cognition is sharper during fasts, too, so maybe you’d find yourself more focused while at bat. Just don’t overdo it. Listen to your body and drink electrolytes.
