Extended fasts or shorter rolling fasts?

Is it better to do one extended fast (20-30 days) or rolling shorter fasts (like 72-96 hours)?

I just broke what I thought would be an extended fast at 115 hours due to peer pressure (new job had a party I did not know about and I caved and ate a cookie). I made it to almost five days. I think it will be easy for me to fast during my work week but I’m wondering if there are addition benefits to extended fasts versus rolling shorter ones. They both seem pretty manageable at the moment.

Thanks!

Answer

I was thinking about this myself. I think I may do 1 week of a 7 day fast and then a few rolling 42/76 hour fasts for six weeks until I restart the cycle.

I think the 7 day fast will give me the cellular benefits and the shorter fasts will help maintain weight.

I am testing the benefits as far as weight loss between the two. I did a 14 day and lost 20 pounds. I did a 5 day refeed and then rolled into a 5 day fast with a 2 day refeed for 3 cycles. Tomorrow will be the 14th day of this cycle and I will be down between 14-15 pounds. I should be 15-17 down for the full 15 days. The 5 day rollings with a 2 day refeed has been much easier for me.
