Obviously you know yourself best, I don’t know your life or circumstances, but I don’t think starting off the year punishing yourself is a great approach especially if you struggle with binging. Find a positive motivation and goal you want, and then work on establishing good healthy and sustainable habits. Good luck on your journey!
I’m fasting my normal 22 hours today. I generally don’t agree with fasting to punish yourself or “atone” for eating too much the day before. That can get you into a binge-restrict cycle that really isn’t healthy.
I definitely have struggled with all-or-nothing thinking too. Doing intermittent fasting has actually helped me move away from that.
I’d recommend setting up a more intentional regular IF schedule like 16:8 and practicing that for a while. If you break your fast earlier than 16 hours one day, no biggie, you just did a shorter fast that day. It’s OK. Intermittent fasting is flexible. Just go back to your normal IF schedule the next day.
