Answer

I have this weird balance between paleo and keto. And it works for me. I’ve lost weight (the goal), but I also have other positive changes: more energy and better mood.

I also work with a dietitian and my doctor to help decide what was best for ME.

Answer

People always want to have an opinion, they get married to the idea that their diet or lifestyle is the best.

It depends on your goals. If weight loss is going to help with your personal health goals and you can stick to keto (I assume this is why you are doing it, based on what you have said), it may actually be what is best for you regardless of whether it’s the worlds most optimal diet or not. Optimal is no good if you can’t stick to it, there’s no results from that.

You can always change things up and optimise later, but you need to be able to set things in motion gradually and then add in more habits as you go and if keto gets you one step there so be it if that’s what’s helping you and you don’t mind!

Everyone wants to have an opinion, do what’s right for you.

Answer

It doesn’t have to be forever by the way. The reason keto works is because our bodies have two systems for burning fuel. One of them, burning fat, is from when our ancestors ran out of fruits and veggies, etc in the dead of winter. then during summer, ate all that stuff, put on weight to get through winter. That system was designed to go in and out of. So do it as long as your body feels good. I know people who have spent many months, even years eating mostly that low carb. If you start having side effects (hair falling out etc) then maybe time to not stay quite so strictly low carb.

Answer

It depends on what your goals are. If you are trying to lose weight and you can achieve that goal on Keto more easily than any other dietary pattern then its probably good since being overweight is a risk factor for many chronic diseases.

If, however, you are already at a healthy weight then Keto might be more risky because of the usual lipid dysregulation that high saturated fat diets induce.

Keep your fibre intake up nice and high on Keto though, it’ll help mitigate the LDL increase.
