Fasting affecting Female Hormones/Fertility?

Hi all, 20F here.

I’ve been doing keto and IF for almost 3 months now. I pretty much do OMAD with the occasional longer/shorter fasts. Currently, I’m aiming for a 3+ day fast, but I’ve heard that long periods of fasting can affect your hormones, reproductive system, etc…

For some info, I guess I classify as “obese”. I know that losing weight, exercising and eating good foods is the best thing I can do for myself in terms of my physical health. I have definitely lost weight ever since starting keto and IF but I guess I’m just scared that I’ll ruin my hormones in the long run… I want to have kids someday.

Anybody here know anything about this? Any articles, videos, etc.?

This is more focused toward the keto diet but still applies perfectly to fasting. Fasting is like the ultimate keto diet, when you aren’t eating, your body consumes literally nothing but fat (your own internal supply).

If anything fasting should help normalize hormones. Check out Dr Jason Fung for more information on fasting and health. I would especially recommend his book “The Complete Guide to Fasting.” There is also some great information on the Two Keto Guys podcasts with Dr Fung and Megan Ramos.
