Fasting and Hashimoto’s?

I was diagnosed recently with Hashimoto’s. I have been easing into 56 hour fasts and eating normally the rest of the week. I’ll start taking medication soon. Has anyone with thyroid issues noticed improved symptoms with fasting?

Answer

Hasimoto’s is a complicated disease. Fasting helps me tremendously because it reduces inflammation and helps me manage some of the other side effects and symptoms of Hasimoto’s. However, during a flare up, fasting becomes virtually impossible for me and I gain weight even without dietary changes. The thing about CICO and Hasimoto’s is that Hasimoto’s can mess with the CO part of the equation so fasting is such an important tool for managing flare up weight gain. I wish I has found it years before I did.

Reducing gluten and sugar are also important.
