Fasting during period

looking for knowledge or anecdotes about water fasting during your period. I’ve been struggling to find well cited science papers, as I think it’s largely understudied at this point in time

In some ways I imagine it’d be beneficial due to reducing bloat, but there’s surely hormonal aspects to strongly be careful of first(?)

Answer

I’m currently fasting, a little over 43 hours into my fast and about 2-3 days into my period. I got pretty cold so gave up the water fast and started drinking tea. Don’t feel any different that my regular fasts though. I probably think about food less?

Answer

I have fasted during my period. I’m a pretty regular faster, I do four to seven day water fasts every couple months. From my experience my periods haven’t had much more affect on the fast than anything else that just happens. Some fasts are easier than others even if I do the same things every time. I would say I’m more likely to get headaches during my “period” fasts, and sometimes they won’t go away. So, I have broken fasts to eat and take medicine. But that’s never really upset me much. I thoroughly believe in the “do the best you can and break whenever you’re ready. Nobody fails a fast” mentality, so I’m pretty likely to begin a fast and just see what happens. I wish I had more science to give you! Fasting is pretty understudied.
