Fasting is an Anti-depressant

I’ve been feeling down for a while now. General anxiety and depression. It felt like I wasn’t present. Life felt like a bad dream.

I started a 3 day fast and on the 2nd day my depression and anxiety is gone.

It’s like as a modern human we have so many requirements for happiness. But in a fasted state all you want is food.

Your desires go back to prehistoric baseline. Right now I’m just looking forward to ending this fast.

But this is something I’ll definitely try again if I get depressed. I wish I knew about this when I went through a breakup earlier this year. It would have saved me months of pain.

Trust me, after not eating for 2 days nothing else is as important as getting your next meal.

Answer

I’m not an expert, but it could be that something you’re eating frequently is also feeding bacteria/yeasts in your gut causing them to secrete chemicals that cause anxiety/depressions. Sugar is a big culprit.

Answer

Prolonged fasts help with my depression and anxiety and gratitude for life. 24 hours - 6 day (not tried longer)

You have to work on your mental health when fasting too otherwise once you start eating again it will creep back.
