Fasting newbie here, am I doing something wrong?

Hi everyone, I’m new to fasting and have been doing keto+OMAD for a couple of weeks now. While I’ve noticed some weight loss, it’s been much slower than I expected. I’ve only lost 1.5kg (3.3 lbs) in two weeks and constantly feel bloated and definitely constipated, which is making me feel a little discouraged.

Sometimes I get hungry, but the thought of eating makes me feel nauseous although I still eat and I have around 1200 calories per day maximum. I also feel a little weak and tired, but it’s still manageable and I don’t feel like I’m dying. Last friday I tried water fasting and I wanted to do it until sunday at lunch but almost felt like passing out and had to give up on saturday evening and ate some chicken.

It’s not the fact that I’m not eating what I want (in facts it’s being pretty easy so far) but the fact that I’m not seeing a lot of results plus these unconfortable feelings that let me down and make me ask if it’s worth it…

I’m wondering if anyone has any advice for me. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way I can improve my fasting experience? I’m open to any tips or suggestions that you all may have. Thank you in advance!

I’d consider adding magnesium glycinate pills, if you’re not already supplementing with magnesium. They help keep you regular and also assist with sleep and feeling calm. You might also double check that you’re getting enough salt on your food, and try to incorporate black coffee and green or black tea (decaf or regular) along with lots of water in your fasting window.

I’m sorry you’re not seeing speedy losses, but constipation may be the main issue. Try to stay the course for another couple of weeks and you’re likely to see more weight loss and less discomfort.

I have had more luck with OMAD than keto, though I haven’t consistently paired the two.

Wishing you the best of luck!
