fasting on and off frequently..

I am such an ON AND OFF faster. I was on my 4th day, felt so nauseous and crummy that i ate some stuff- breaking my fast.

My goal is weight loss.

I have had benefits from autophagy and that is truly amazing for my system and skin- but my goal right now isnt that.

For seasoned fasters- have you ever been through this? frequenting fasts on and off? can i still lose weight this way? ive only found real benefit and weightloss through 7+ day fasts.

I think i cant be that determined anymore due to work and this virus being a threat to my health.

Please share your experience! Thank you all!

Answer

I do intermittent fasting, I’ve done longer fasts in the past and a few days a week in the past as well. It’s just a matter of staying committed to your goals.

I would be careful doing fasts right now for more than a few days with the virus going around as a short fast can be helpful but a longer one can weaken you temporarily.

Also, I don’t think that traditional fasting is that great overall for weight loss - I’d recommend diet (caloric deficit)/exercise and maybe intermittent fasting to help with caloric deficit. My mom and aunt were doing this type of fast that you’re talking about and they lost some weight through it, however long-term it’s really difficult to maintain this type of regimen. I think it’s healthier personally to just do a caloric deficit and focus on eating smaller portions overall.
