Fasting on pain killers

1.) Will pain killers break a fast?

2.) Is it safe to continue my fast while on pain killers?

I’m having a tooth extraction & if it’s anything like my last, I won’t want to deal with the pain naturally, but if it’s not too bad I’ll just avoid the painkillers.

Regardless I’d like to be a bit more equipped. I’m currently on a 20:4 IF regiment. Extraction is tomorrow about 3 hours after my eating window.

Answer

Tylenol is a heck of a pain killer and can be taken on an empty stomach. Most hard core pain killers are some version of Tylenol + some opioid such as codeine. Heck codeine itself is mild on the stomach but it can still cause mild side effects which is why it is recommended (but not needed) to be taken with food.

Ask your doctor for something less likely to upset your stomach. If it still does, have a medicinal glass of milk.
