Fasting on water vs. coffee or tea

Are there any studies that show the difference between fasting in water vs black coffee or black tea(nothing added). What do the experts say. Will weight loss be effected if fasting with black coffee or black tea?

Also how about green tea? It’s supposed to be a natural appetite suppressant so it could in theory make those first couple of days easier. One problem I have with any tea, especially when fasting is it makes me naustious but if I think a head and cold brew it I’m much better. (not sure why).

One negative I’ve heard about coffee is it makes your body produce cortisol which some say is also produced by fasting (so double cortisol whammy) and others say cortisol helps make you fat (forget why).

Then there is also dry fasting (can we say that here? even the mention is banned on some groups). For completeness it would be nice to have a comparison: dry-water-tea-coffee.

Herbal tea is too vague I think for any rigid study. Needs to be something specific like chamomile or whatever might help with fasting.

Just based on my experience: dry will get me into ketosis more quickly (body probably eating itself to make water, nothing scientific just my memory from how quickly the pee sticks turn purple) but dry can sure be rough; tea does seem to help a bit with appetite but often makes me sick; coffee I can drink all day long and the heat makes me take my time, sipping/savoring, a great way to take your mind of being hungry but may make me more hungry in the long run.

And how about the differences to autophagy? Tea has some carbs. Also it’s probably a matter of the amount you drink. Like one cup of coffee/tea vs. serveral pots of coffee/tea every day.

Also how about herbal tea vs fruit tea.

So many things to consider.

Answer

Caffeine requires liver function to process it so it doesn’t allow complete autophagy but it does help with weight loss if that’s your goal. However, you should always drink water, especially if you’re consuming a lot of coffee or tea.
