Fasting one day and pigging out the next. Is it healthy?

I don’t know if there is a name for it but can someone with no apparent health issues sustain this type of lifestyle? Fast one day, only water and coffee/green tea and load up next day. What are the pros and cons of such a diet?

Answer

If your maintenance is 2000 calories and you eat 4000 on your eating days, you will probably maintain your weight or lose a tiny bit at best.

You’d be better off just eating at maintenance on your eating days assuming your goal is weight lose

Answer

If you’re trying to lose weight, that sounds ineffective.

You’ll just be gaining and losing the same weight over again.Either, eat at a deficit on eating days or fast for longer, like 4 or 5 days, then eat one day, then go back to fasting. That’s much easier.

Starting at 24 hours fasted to eating back to fasting is harder because hunger will still be there at the 24 hour mark.

Answer

It’s broadly called ADF or Alternate Day Fasting but usually has restrictions beyond pigging out. It being healthy depends entirely on what you eat. Get an idea of what your TDEE is and limit your calories to less than double it–if you’re maintaining your weight. Additionally, limiting your eating window on feasting days will increase autophagy and promote longevity.
