Fasting was the key to quitting cigs (at least for me)

For some reason after every meal I used to want to smoke a cigarette but then I went on a 104 hour fast and it was the final piece of the puzzle I needed to make the temptation and withdrawal symptoms go away. I hope this helps others, because fuck the tobacco industry and all of its affiliates.

The psychological/mental effects of fasting aren’t talked about nearly enough, IMHO. And your massive success with using fasting to help you break one of the toughest addictions known to man, does not surprise me! A century ago it was common knowledge that fasting was so much more than a weight loss tool. Dr. Julia Seton wrote a great little text in 1928 titled “Fasting for Regeneration” where she describes a rolling 48 protocol coupled with affirmations, meditations, and visualizations aimed at reprogramming (my word, not hers) the mind and habits. One such protocol she called “The Illuminati Fast”, and it is fascinating to think of what this tool could achieve. There are dozens of such examples in old texts, including some colorful regimens put out by Bernarr MacFadden and the Physical Culturists. I’m going to DM you, E-A, and offer you a poem by Rumi on fasting I think you’d appreciate. If not, no worries. Thanks for sharing your story! Cheers!

That’s awesome, it helped me stop being an alcoholic. Once I started pushing past 24 hours on my fasts I realized how much self control I have. It really helps you realize the potential of your own will power. I’ve done some 5 day fasts which have made me feel really empowered and helped me stop other negative habits in my life.
