Fasting when you’re sick - medication

I was just thinking, hey, bonus of having a really bad cold and sore throat means I haven’t eaten anything since 4pm tonight, only had water and tea, and will likely end up with a much longer than usual fast as a result. Except, I’ve had NyQuil cough syrup and a cough drop. I once worked with a nutritionist who said don’t count medication when it comes to calories, sugars, etc., but I’m curious how others handle this. When it comes to fasting, do you consider medications as interruptions to your fast?

Answer

When you’re sick, take any medications you need to get better and back to your regularly scheduled life. So don’t worry about IF.

As for prescribed medications, you have to take them as prescribed, even with food. Some of the “can be” taken with food meds you can work around, but sometimes the nausea or upset stomach isn’t worth it.
