Fasting while dealing with labirinthitis symptoms

Has anyone struggled with fasting while suffering with labyrinthitis/vestibular issues?

I’ve been almost symptom free for over a year after having suffered on and off for nearly ten years with dizziness. Not eating regularly tends to worsen symptoms so I would often over compensate which led to gaining weight.

Just over 3 years ago I decided if I was going to be fat and dizzy I might as well be slim and dizzy and embarked on 18/6 with occasional OMAD. At times I really suffered due to not eating but nowhere near as much or as often as I had expected.

I’ve dropped 20 kilos in what I feel is a really sustainable way and have been feeling great the last 18 months or so. However the last 6-8 weeks I have felt some minor dizziness symptoms returning just like before. Brain fog, not feeling like I am getting restorative sleep and fasting which I was finding easier and easier is suddenly ratcheted back up to super hard level. I get hit with a sudden bout of dizziness, the sweats and an almost insatiable hunger. Today around the 16 hour fast I got hit by a severe sudden bout of dizziness for a minute or so which wipes me out for a good few hours after.

Maybe I have to take a step back from fasting and just eat smaller meals more often though my prior experience is more frequent meals just results in more hunger.

Answer

Nurse here. Some vestibular issue can be improved through the act of mastication - chewing essentially. If you find your symptoms worsen when not eating then maybe find something to chew on for a while a few times a day. Dizziness sucks and I hope you find some relief!
