Does anyone fast for longer periods of time like 36-48 hours while working a pretty heavy schedule? Do you feel good while doing it. I fasted a lot during covid but found it easy because I wasn’t doing anything. Though my job right now requires a lot of mental and physical work so im seeing what other people tend to do.
I can still hit 16-20 hours fine. And want to go more.
I think anything over two days is going to be extremely hard. Even by day five, when you’re not necessarily feeling hunger anymore, it doesn’t mean you’ve got tons of energy. Fasting for longer than two days while working a demanding job doesn’t seem feasible to me, but each person’s capacities may differ.
Mentally I actually prefer working when fasted! I feel a little sharper plus the work distracts me from hunger and passes the time quickly.
Physically I often do light-moderate intensity work on the farm where I live (fencing, heavy lifting etc) and felt great. As far as I understand high intensity workouts are not recommended for EF but light intensity (walking etc) is fine. It probably just depends on what level of physical work you do and your own tolerance while fasted.
For context I usually do 72hr fasts, every fortnight or so.
Mentally a while back i took a 4 hour cognitive test at the end of a four day fast (afternoon mental fog issues). There was 0 effect on my mental abilities.
I have been fasting since Sunday night (38 hours) I just plowed 8”+ of snow on a large area with a snow blower with a broken auger belt… Basically pushing the snow around. 24F out there and I was sweating up a storm, had to take my hat and jacket off. Now I’m getting ready to go to work for my full day. You get used to it and don’t necessarily run out of energy. Well I am but that’s because I’m out of shape, a whole different story :\
