feel like giving up and just staying fat after a stressful week.

this whole week i’ve not been motivated at all, and except for a 36 on sunday, my fasts ended at 20 hours or so and i ate more than my TDEE. i was doing well for the first two weeks but stress has made everything terrible this week. i had 12,268 calories total this week. it’s not that i’ve even been eating super unhealthy, but that i’ve been bailing on my fasts all week to eat just okay food.
idk what i expect from this sub and will probably delete this post from shame but i really do feel like giving up today. it’s not all sunshine and rainbows i guess

These are the posts you shouldn’t delete, and more than that, should save it as a note to yourself.

I don’t want to get all hippie/new age/etc, but fasting is deeply connected to mindfulness. Feeling something intensely in your body, but having your mind prevail over it.

Go back to a few years ago or to the average person on the streets and tell them that you have failed because you only managed to fast for 20 hours a day and one 36h fast in a week. Most people find it outrageous that they have to skip breakfast for blood tests.

Save that note for the future. If you have a small inconvenience and want to cave in, read it and remember that in a terrible week you managed to push through - you can definitely do it again.

And for right now, remember that thoughts and feelings come and go. Fasting when you are not motivated is the challenge, and if you manage to do it imagine what you will be able to do when you are motivated!

Dude, I had a hell of a week. I tried fasting three times and only made it about 18-20 hours also. I haven’t been to the gym all week, I barely had enough water. It’s tough as hell when you’re dealing with stuff. Go easy on yourself. You can only do so much, and when you can get back to it then you will.

I don’t know if it happens to everybody but it certainly happens to me. I’m not sure if your goal is weight loss or not, but if it is weight loss… I hope you are tracking/logging your weight. Because I’ve weighed myself almost every day in 2022 and while the graph sometimes goes up by a few pounds, the trend is down… Down… Down. From the very disciplined program you have been following I suspect you’ve got the same story!

Answer

You still fasted more than a lot of people out there. And today is a new day. Don’t get down on yourself but see how far you’ve come. Fasting isn’t about just the end goal (for me weight loss) but partly about the discipline and journey and self discovery along the way. You will be stronger for even doing what you could do. 👍🏼
