Hello, all!
I’m starting off the New Year right. I know for a fact fasting in all varieties works well for me; I just have to stick to it. And I’d like to use this sub as a support center. I do better when I have a place to talk about this, and I can’t talk to family without accusations of “disordered eating,” so here I am!
I started off the New Year with a new plan: alternating weekly fasts. One week of full fasting (except coffee, tea, water), and one week of keto OMAD. My goal is to keep this up until I’m under 200 pounds, then switch to full OMAD and get back in the gym. I just finished up my week of full fasting successfully, and broke my fast at midnight-ish last night with a NY strip with mushroom pan sauce (Gotta reward myself for a job well done!). I’m feeling good, feeling in control, happy with the changes in energy levels and calorie intake, and ready to get disciplined!
Would love to hear from other people on similar programs! And any advice in general would be welcome!
I’m sorry you have to deal with the family labeling your IF journey like that. It’s hard when you don’t have family support, or the support is hollow. I’ve been fighting the latter myself. What foods work for my wife, and that my littles will eat, doesn’t work well for me. But with how flexible IF can be, I work through it, keeping in mind my goals.
Hang in there OP. Try not to take a huge bite or set goals that are too large. I’ve fallen off the wagon many times myself, usually I feel because my plans were too grand and when it was upset by family or work, I fell off the wagon.
Right now what works for me is using an app that reminds me constantly of what I’m doing.
Congratulations on starting up. I’m new to IF and am also trying to improve insulin resistance as well to avoid diabetes/pre diabetes. I’m also doing a Keto plus OMAD and it helped me break a little plateau. I’m 56F sw: 191 cw: 176.2 gw: 170 . Since I’m 5’5” I’m going to a new goal of 150 after I reach my initial goal. I’ve been trying to lose weight since October 2022 and am happy with my progress so far. I’m also trying to increase my exercise and step counts on weekends because my desk job during the week leaves me too sedentary.
It’s pretty normal to have things like the holidays interfere. I usury consider December to be a “low progress/maintenance“ month so that I can enjoy it with my family.
You can always start back. The best part of IF for me is that, with my personal situation (wife, 4 kids) it’s way easier to NOT do something (IE, not eat for 20 hours) than to do something (keep a complex schedule with regimented diet). I think IF is the reason that, unlike some siblings that demand feed, I have avoided diabetes and morbid obesity.
