Female Hormones and Fasting

Hello everyone!

I am looking for some resources, articles, personal stories, and insights to what fasting looks like as a woman. I (20F) have mild PCOS symptoms that come from disregulated hormones. Basically, I don’t have enough estrogen/progesterone but a bit too much testosterone.

A big part of PCOS is insulin resistance, but not many mainstream platforms look at fasting as a way to help with that. PCOS also causes difficulty losing weight. I could stand to lose about 25 or 30 pounds (even though I am technically a healthy weight, I am at the top of that classification).

Basically, I don’t want to screw my hormones up further but my body seems to respond to fasting in a positive way, at least in the up-to 48 hr fasts I have done so far. Any ladies who could point me to good resources or tell me their personal story?

Answer

Someone close to me has the same condition. She only ate twice a day to lose weight with a cappuccino between those meals. And even though the weight loss was quite a lot, it stopped going down after a point. Her weight stays more or less at the same level now, and is a few kgs above BMI.

The condition still persists & she takes meds according to how the doctor advices. However, afaik, hormonal changes haven’t been an issue. The person has anxiety issues but I don’t know if it’s because of that.

Low-carb is not preferable to the person because of lifestyle & other priorities.
