I’m planning to do a 24 hour fast for the first time. Have been doing 16/8, 18/6 for the last three weeks. Any tips??
I tell myself that I’m not eating today and will eat tomorrow and my whiney stomach will just have to wait. Intermittent fasting with higher fat, lower carb meals prior to prolonged fasting helps a lot for me too. Like you, I did 16/8 fasting for a few weeks before my first prolonged fast and my hunger pains were manageable.
Above all, I think motivation is the most important thing for fasting. Motivation with set goals brings positive thoughts in moments of weakness that help over come your desire for food.
At a more tactical level, lately I’ve really liked the taste of ACV, reminds me of salt and vinegar or dill chips and seems to help with hunger pains.
If you’ve been doing 18-hour fasts regularly, 24 hours isn’t that different. You don’t need special prep, you don’t need electrolytes for that short of a fast, you don’t need to worry too much about how you’re breaking it. Just do what you’ve been doing so far but go for 24 hours instead of 18, it’s really not a big deal.
Are you planning to take electrolyte tablets in your water? Similarly ive been doing omad for a few weeks but been a bit undisciplined over this past week due to covid and staying with parents, so diving into a 72hr fast to kick start my mindset again. Just wondering if the electrolytes are a once a day thing or once every few days?
