First 24 hr fast! How do you guys take your mind off of your hunger?

I’ve done 16/8 for a few months and don’t really have any trouble with that anymore. I think I’m just stressing myself out by thinking about the fact that I won’t be eating until 8pm.

I chose today because I’m super busy all day, but I’m still unintentionally focused on my stomach. Ugh. What helps you guys get through the day?

I did my first 24 hour fast yesterday. It wasn’t as I feared it would be. I didn’t really get hungry until the last 4 hours but I was also easily distracted from it. I did frequently remind myself that if I’m not having symptoms of hypoglycemia then I didn’t need to eat. And then I would drink some water.

Just knowing that you WILL survive. Also, having a set time in mind helps me resist any temptations or urge to eat. Knowing when and what I’m going to eat also helps that decision fatigue. The worst thing is going days without eating and then suddenly trying to cook for yourself and think of someplace to eat out that won’t set you back on all of your hard work!

My problem isn’t taking my mind off the hunger, it’s taking my mind off food. Last night I wasn’t even hungry, but I could NOT stop thinking about food. It was bizarre, like when you get music stuck in your head and even when your brain is occupied elsewhere, some part of it is focused on the earworm. Some part of my brain was focused on all the food I wasn’t eating.

Having a set end time helps me. It’s like we’ve all been kids at school and been hungry but we waited until official lunch time to eat and didn’t die. It’s the same thing. You know you’re just waiting for breakfast time and it’s not a big deal to be hungry until then.
